The Social Web
A few years ago MySpace was new and exciting and social networking on the web was just taking off. The years have only seen an increase in the social nature of the web. By now it feels that social networking is almost everywhere. The ability to comment and review, sign up and find friends and so many other aspects are becoming increasingly popular regardless of the site you are on. Many ecommerce businesses have jumped at the chance to incorporate user reviews, comments, photos and even videos to help sell their products.
Just recently Microsoft announced that it would begin to add Facebook search results to Bing. bing.com/social lets you search and browse Twitter and Facebook updates, so you no longer have to depend on updated websites to see what people are saying about anything.
Social networking is everywhere. This means that one of the questions facing people and businesses trying to establish a web presence now is whether they should try to incorporate social networking into their sites. Social networking is just going to get bigger, but at least for right now, that doesn't necessarily mean that everyone will benefit from it. As with anything in the web world there must be a purpose behind its use otherwise it makes for more work, more clutter and more confusion. Creating social networking accounts on the major websites is a good way to break into the social networking craze, and often they are the only steps a business needs to take. Establishing forums, user logins, comments, messaging is not something that every business needs to take on, and so they must consider the best course of action before jumping on the bandwagon.
