HP Printers - Not What They Used to Be. Please “RE” Invent Yourself

The very first printer my wife and I purchased was an HP Deskjet 722c. We still have it and it works flawlessly. I've thought about selling it, but that would be like giving away the family pet...just doesn't feel right. After a few years we became a "multiple computer" household with laptops and so purchased an all-in-one by HP. The HP psc 1350 all-in-one was everything we hoped for. Fast printing, easy to use scanner, functional ink cartridges and of course the HP brand.

HP Reinvent YourselfWell times have changed. As a web design business, when we decided to fill the office with printers it was an obvious choice to select Hewlett Packard as our printer brand. Lousy mistake. Either we've had the worst of luck, or HP printers are just not what they used to be. After reading several forums on the web however, I see I'm no alone. We have 5 HP printers and I'm about ready to throw all of them out.

The first problem that all seem to have is the use of ink. I can't believe how fast the indicator will prompt us to switch out the ink cartridge even though we all know there is more ink. It's as if the sensors have been programmed to prematurely encourage ink cartridge replacement to increase sales. Even on others when the ink is "really" out, it appears that the cartridge never was full to begin with. We have literally had one of our all-in-one HP printers for just a few months and have replaced all 5 cartridges 3 times! If it continues, the cost won't be worth it in ink cartridge replacement. I'd rather go with another brand and alternate route to avoid replacing the cartridges so often.

My personal HP next to my desk gets "carriage jammed" errors all day long. I've followed all of HPs directions to make sure the carriage is clear, and it is, but the alert keeps appearing. I click "OK" and it prints just fine. This thing is brand new and I'm having to press buttons all day long to print simple documents.

With the forums and blogs posting similar comments, I hope HP will get it together and fix their issues or at least make some recalls to keep their client base happy. If not I'm switching over to Canon, Kodak, Lexmark or what's looking most positive is a Xerox color laser.

Wish me luck.
